BFG 6800GT SLI overclocking - 2005/03/23 21:17 I currently have 2 BFG 6800GT's in SLI running @ 435/1120MHz using stock voltage. Everything is water cooled and my idle temps are 29~30°C and full load seems be around 32~33°C.

I tried editing the BIOS to up the 3D voltage to 1.4v and the cards could auto detect in CoolBits all the way up to 460/1200MHz after that mod but were no where near stable in 3DMark03 trolls lair/nature... 3DMark05 would have no tearing or artifacting but would stutter and my score was only 8900 @ 450/1200MHz... Flash back to stock and use coolbits to overclock and my score is now 10.745 @ 435/1120MHz.

I am wondering, the stuttering etc., did I forget to do something when I upped the 3D voltage to 1.4v? Should 2D match your 3D settings for voltage?

Re:BFG 6800GT SLI overclocking - 2005/03/24 01:07 2D = Desktop
3D = Games

So your fine having lower desktop voltages(2D) but you will prob need to up your 3D volatage to 1.45v to make the overclock stable.

Re:BFG 6800GT SLI overclocking - 2005/03/24 14:02 Are you abel to provide the BIOS's of your two BFG 6800 GT SLI cards? Cause I want to take a look at them and see how this BIOS is originally set. Then I can see if I can do something for you to get something more out of your cards. So can you send me the backups of your Original BIOS of your cards?

We have noticed that the NV45 is not so keen on voltage increases, but there might be something that we need to look into. But since we didn't have get a lot of these 6800 GT PCI-E or 6800 Ultra PCI-E BIOS's I would like to see what can be done on yours.

Re:BFG 6800GT SLI overclocking - 2005/03/24 14:21 This is because of the PCI-Express HSI bridge. The overclocking headroom on NVIDIA PCI-Express cards are going to be limited as compaired to the AGP counterpart. No one should expect any model of the NV45 to run better at clock speeds of an AGP card. The stuttering is because your card is throttling back as well as who knows what else. To get rid of the stuttering set the clocks at 445/1100 or below, adding voltage does not help either. The majority of NV45 simply does not have the headroom at those speeds, unless of couse if your lucky and received an exceptional card with the choicest chipset but even then the HSI is going to cause some issues, so dont run the card that far out of spec's. Also the NV45 is fragile to sustained overclocking, so beware.
