BFG 6800GT OC common problem - 2005/03/22 08:42 Currently, my 6800gt is OCd at 428/1100 right now. When i play Counter-Strike (open GL), i get 5-10 second random freezes. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, using stock speed at 370/1000 i still get the freezes. Thought it was heat problems, got nvsilenver 5 and it didn't help. I tried disabling fastwrite in bios and in rivatuner but it didn't help either. i turned off sideband addressing in bios but in rivatuner it says its on and its greyed out.

I also tried modding the bios, i used omniextremeeditfx to edit my 3d voltage from 1.3 to 1.4 and 2d voltage from 1.1 to 1.4 and it didn't help. i also tried using various bios, evga, evga rev2, pny and all of them were the same. I'm kinda losing hope because ive been trying to fix this for a month now and its $400 and i cant RMA it now cause i've already modified it. never thought i had to go all through these problems with a 400 dollar vidcard

i read that its got to do with NF3 chipsets. i wonder if flashing it to ultra bios would help stop the freezing. im thinking of selling my card and get x800xt or just get a new motherboard. sorry for the long post and i appreciate ur time .

Re:BFG 6800GT OC common problem - 2005/03/22 08:47 Hi,

Cool name BTW, I have heard the same thing with the nF3 chipset and I have also heard of a lot of solutions as well, have you flashed your BIOS of the DFi mother-board to the latest revision? How about using the latest nForce drivers for the motherboard? And last but not least are you overclocking and does this happen at defaults clocks?

-edit

I am using a sample PowerColor X800XL or Pro model this card is one screamer for the money, so if your looking for what is probly the best high end purchase for the buck, you can try the X800 XL/Pro. PowerColor has a kick ass card on there hands.

Thanks

ttyl

Re:BFG 6800GT OC common problem - 2005/03/22 09:34 thanks, got that name from history class . so far, i got the latest bios for my motherboard, haven't tried updates for nforce. and yes, i tried overclock and default clock speeds, they both bring bad news

Re:BFG 6800GT OC common problem - 2005/03/22 11:31 You may need to update the BIOS. Try using the nForce 5.10's those seem to really wake up the nf3.

Re:BFG 6800GT OC common problem - 2005/03/22 11:56 yea those are the ones i got. i flashed mine to evga Ultra rev 1, 2d, 3d, throttle = all 1.4v. seems to get bad temps.. 70c idle... it seems to be fine, i didn't get any freezes after 15 mins of cs, but the temp is bad. i got nv silencer5 tho hmmm, ill go check my installation tomorrow, maybe theres a bad contact between copper and gpu and rams. how come when i open gt bios, i cant change throttle voltages =/.

Re:BFG 6800GT OC common problem - 2005/03/22 12:43 yea i did, the latest one. im just saying that i flashed my videocard too. right now, im using evga ultra rev4, 3d - 1.3v, throttle - 1.3v, 2d - 1.2v. i get better temps, 56c idle. the freezes are less in my opinion. imma try all three of them at 1.3v later.
