BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/19 12:49 You may find this hard to believe but I managed to flash my GeCube X800PRO VIVO AGP card with a PCI Express X800XT BIOS by mistake. I was being hassled by my kids and didn't realise what I had downloaded. Now I can't even boot with my trusty PCI card if the AGP card is plugged in. Normally this is a failsafe way to recover but I think because it now has a PCI Express BIOS it just can't boot.

Any ideas on how to clear the BIOS. It seems a shame to scrap a card that wasn't even a day old.

Re:BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/19 13:33 Okay, let us see what we can first get as feedback from you on what is still working and what is not. So first, did you make a backup of your Original BIOS? If so that is already a good thing. If not no panic, I think I have such a BIOS.

Secondly, when you just plug in your GeCube X800 card what does you PC do? Do you hear it is boiting but you just don't see anything on the screen? Or doesn't it even boot? And when you use the PCI card, what does it do nothing or...

Once we know a bit of that we can then see what is the best way to move forward. But of the PC seems to boot with the AGP card only then we could try a blind flash back to your Original BIOS.

Re:BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/19 14:07 When the AGP card is in, the PC will not boot at all. With the PCI card in as well I get just past the BIOS post screen then I just get a flashing cursur with no response from keyboard. I did back up the original BIOS.

Re:BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/19 14:15 Okay, so that is not that good feedback. But then again we can always try to get to the bottom. In the mainboard BIOS what did you set as primary video card? PCI or AGP? Cause that should be PCI... Can you check that?

And another thing are you able to supply the Original BIOS? By attaching it here?

Re:BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/19 14:43 Here is the original BIOS renamed to old to make it easier to flash. PC BIOS is set to PCI first. I think it locks up the PC because it now has PCI Express BIOS.

Re:BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/19 14:47 It seems you are not able to attach it or so? Well then just mail it...

Re:BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/19 14:51 Yeps that will be the cause. But still when this was done with NVIDIA cards it would still bootup... The only difference is that ATI has AGP cores and PCI-E cores and not yet a bridge chip from AGP to PCI-E and the other way around. but the PC doesn't make any beeps? It just stops with the flashing cursor?

Re:BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/19 14:57 I have sent it by email. Yes the pc does not boot at all once it gets past the post bios screen all you get is the flashing cursur. No response from the keyboard and you have to keep pressure on the power switch for 30 seconds to turn the unit off.

Re:BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/19 18:06 Somehow this doesn't sound good. Cause like that you will never get to a point where you can use a floppy to reflash your card. in none of the 2 cases, with PCI card or without you get somewhere that you get access to the PC. And that is what we need to be to flash/re-flash the card.

This might sound very bad for you but I think there is nothing else then just trying to RMA the card. Or go to the shop where you bought it and say it never worked? They might then take it back and get you a new one... That is basically the only option you have.

Re:BIOS disaster... - 2005/03/20 04:59 Thanks for your time. Sorry I didn't reply last night I was too tired and stressed out. So maybe there is no way to fix this problem? Is it possible to plug in an agp card once the pc has already booted, or would it just lock up?
