Re:overheating - 2005/03/16 12:18 I can answer a few things for qualey............

no its not overclocked at all.............

yes the thermaltake power supply is upto the task............

no the card wasnt purchased new , however it wasnt that old............

unsure of any previous bios flashe that may have caused this..............

the gpu core temp reports a stable 48-50 degs c however the ram sinks get hot enough to cook your breakfast on , possibly in the 70-80 degs c vacinity however thats just a guess..........

So does anyone here know of a cure ??? Maybe a Non Ultra bios ??? im unsure so we were hoping you guys could point us in the right direction.....

Re:overheating - 2005/03/16 16:40 A 5800 card normally runs extremely hot for what it does. Which is why the design was quickly dumped in favour of going with the 59xx designs.

If you want it to run cooler, then use better heatsinking or reduce gpu and/or memory speeds.

EDIT:

I found using an Arctic Cooling NV4 Silencer reduced running temps in my highly overclocked 5900nu.

Since the NV4 cooler also applies to a 5800 card, there could be some benefit in giving it a try ?

Re:overheating - 2005/03/16 23:19 i would do what jimmor said and drop the freqs on the mem , look into better cooling on the ram itself , and possibly thro in a fan some place close blowing across the video card .

Re:Overheating - 2005/03/21 18:59 Indeed try to get some airflow on the card as that would then already lower the heat or try putting on a heatsink that also covers the memory chips.
