A temp bug or what??? - 2005/03/04 11:33 I just bought yesterday my new Inno3D GeForce 6800. So I tried to install different ForceWare drivers, one after the other... And I noticed that the temperature varied depending what drivers I installed... I installed first 66.93 WHQL and tweak and temp reads out 49°C idle but when I installed the new beta or tweaked 71.84 it increased to 60°C...

Too bad for the 71.84 its the fastest driver I ever used, got me a 10770 3DMark03 and 4420 on 3DMark05. I hope NVIDIA fix this coz its not healthy for the video card with a hight temp. I even unclocked extra pipes and vertex without any artifacts.
I also tried to used other 71.xx series driver they have the same temp problem...

Re:A temp bug or what??? - 2005/03/04 11:43 That's a known issue with the 71.80+ and 75.90s. Set your 2D clock to 401MHz and see if the temps drop.

Re:A temp bug or what??? - 2005/03/04 11:52 What causing this sudden temp increase? Hardware or software???

Re:A temp bug or what??? - 2005/03/04 12:17 I've heard different theories, but nothing substantiated. Some people say it's a fan speed issue, but I doubt it. Others say that it uses the 3D voltage during 2D mode.

Anyways, try the 401MHz 2D clock trick. That seems to work for most people.

Re:A temp bug or what??? - 2005/03/04 14:12 That means that you would clock the 2D speed of a 6800NU from 325MHz to 401MHz? That is an increase... Wouldn't that lead to even higher temps? As far as I have captured it is an issue with the drivers. But I guess it could always be other things as well.

Re:A temp bug or what??? - 2005/03/04 14:30 Oops. I thought he had a GT. Not sure what the fix is on the 6800NU.
You might want to play with the 2D settings (just test, not apply) and see if that makes a difference.

Re:A temp bug or what??? - 2005/03/04 15:01 Mmm, another thought then... A 6800GT doesn't that run at 350MHz 2D/3D speeds? And the Ultra at 400MHz? Well I know most all of the 6800GT can run at 400MHz or 401MHz. Just wanted to make sure.

Re:A temp bug or what??? - 2005/03/16 14:50 You dont have to put the core at 401 Mhz at all times and keep it there, what you can do is run coolbits and then you check the manual overclocking, set the core to 401Mhz in 2d and do the test, then you apply. Once that is done, just clock the no overclocking button and apply that again, now the temperature should dropp to a lower level.
You have to do this procedure everytime you start the computer...but it is worth it because the drivers are really fast, i noticed huge boosts on my brothers computer on some games.

One more thing is, that the bugg is not really a fault of the tempsensor, but the card actually does get a higher temperature....but nvidia are not concerned over this since it does not affect the full load temperature and their cards can handle up to over 80 degrees pretty well. Otherwise they would remove the drivers from the site etc.

I also found another funny bugg in 71.84, and that is...if you run coolbits2 and set the refreshrate in for example 1024*768 (the standard 3dmarktest resolution). This affected my fps in 3dmark03 and made my point dropp 1500points, when i then put the refreshrate override back to default i got these 1500points back (im not using vertical sync, its set to always off).
I was thinking that maybe this is an issue for 3dmark only, so i tried the stresstest for CS Source and found out that the fps is actually lower. With the refreshrate set to 85Hz we get an average fps in CS at 92.93fps. And with the refreshrate set to default we got and fps at 120.91fps.

Huuuuge difference, let me know if you try this and you see the same bugg, because then we should infact report this to nvidia
