Radeon X850 XT power not connected... - 2006/02/04 20:55 Let's go again, a friend of me now bought a Radeon X850 XT PE, all was running fine, the card is water cooled... Today we changed the Northbridge cooler on the mainboard, for that we had to remove the mainboard out of the case. After putting them in again, the VGA card now screams that the additional power cord isn't connected! We already tried another Radeon X850 PRO in the PC, the system itself is working fine, only the Radeon X850 XT won't work anymore. Does anyone have an idea what the reason could be? I already searched the PCB for damaged parts but didn't found something...

Re:Radeon X850 XT power not connected... - 2006/02/04 21:23 It looks like the card is the problem... Maybe you did something wrong when you took off the watercooling, I don't know, maybe water just jumped on the PCB... Did you look if the molex cable was right?

Re:Radeon X850 XT power not connected... - 2006/02/04 22:43 The waterc ooling wasn't opend the whole time, also the cooler itself wasn't removed... The cable to the card is the same which is used by the hard drive, so it was plugged in the right way.

Re:Radeon X850 XT power not connected... - 2006/02/04 23:55 You must try the card into another computer... I'm still thinking about what could be the problem, so try that, I'll let you know maybe other idea.

Re:Radeon X850 XT power not connected... - 2006/02/08 07:22 So we tried the card in another PC yesterday with the same result. The card is already announced to RMA, and will be send to the dealer today. Let's hope he has more luck with the next card...

Re:Radeon X850 XT power not connected... - 2006/02/08 08:29 Just one thing... Make sure that the power cord to the Radeon X850 XT is not shared with any other devices! As the XT needs more power then the PRO this could somehow caused this as well. All high-end cards should always be powered by their own power cable not shared with any other hardware for best operation.

Re:Radeon X850 XT power not connected... - 2006/02/08 19:03 The card only shared the power with two 80mm fans, and at last it was alone on the cable.

Okay, then indeed something will have been wrong with the card...

Re:Radeon X850 XT power not connected... - 2006/06/12 09:59 I have had similar problem using 2 power supplys. When I started up the first one (external connector of the card) something burns and the same warning message appears. As a beggining check Q20 transistor (code - t2a: PMBT3906) on the front side of the PCB. That transistor was my problem and after changing it the card works normally. The other problem could be Q9 and Q10 near to the external power connector check them also.

Re:Radeon X850 XT power not connected... - 2007/01/07 01:36 hello dolf,

I have the same problem with an AGP Power Color radeon X850 XT . I installed it to my ASUS p4p800e de luxe with enermax 535 Watt power supply. After starting the PC, the cooling Fan of the video card first runs with full speed and after a few seconds it was throttled down to normal speed (the normal start procedure) . Now the monitor detected the video signal, the motherboard was beeping and the monitor showed the flashing red message --- you have not connecte the power cable ... etc. . But the cable was connected properly. I tried another connector, the same problem, I checked the Radeon with my second mainboard ( Asus p4pe another type of power supply ) , same bad result.
I think the Video Card is not burned out because of the videosignal and fan control. Obviously i have the same problem with the transistors Q20 , Q9 and Q10. But I have no information about the type of transistor Q9 and Q10 because i have no detailed wiring diagram which gives me a better understanding about the external power connector of my Radeon. Is it possible that additional components are bad ?

regards
Thomas
