XpertVision Radeon X850 XT, any voltage modding? - 2006/12/07 12:35 Hi, I just got my Radeon X850 XT 256MB GDDR3 AGP card and I can't find any pictures of my card to make the voltage mod with pencil. All pictures show cards with ram on both side, but my card have ram just in two rows near GPU. Can anyone help me or any idea? The GPU is on water and I can push to 560/615MHz. Thanks!

Re:XpertVision Radeon X850 XT, any voltage modding? - 2006/12/16 02:17 Can you post a picture of your card? I voltage modded a Radeon X850 PRO (flashed to XT). Be very careful, as I burnt my first Radeon X850 and had to buy another one! That said, the most important question is not whether the memory chips look the same, but rather if the layout of the voltage selectors on the back is the same as in the pictures. Next, do you have a red or a blue board on which the stuff is mounted?

That's important because on a red board you are gonna have a pain drawing the pencil. Actually, it should technically be impossible (I did it anyway, but with some risk). Since you say you're on water cooling, why use pencil? There is a limitation to how much voltage the pencil can increase. You would have a more exact method by soldering resistors.

Re:XpertVision Radeon X850 XT, any voltage modding? - 2006/12/24 03:34 Well, looks like you've got a very weird board. I can't tell you exactly, but you might be able to locate the same chips outlined in online guides. If the layout is so different that not even the chip names are carried over, then I suggest not screwing around with it.

Pencil mods will yield you maybe 30-50 Mhz on the core at best. You can push more if you solder resistors, but you really need to know what you're doing at that point.

Look for the resistor numbers to see if they match to the one in the tech powerup guide: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/voltmods/112/3 and start by getting measurements of core and memory voltages. Be careful to not fry the card when taking the measurements...

Re:XpertVision Radeon X850 XT, any voltage modding? - 2006/12/24 18:10 Well my electronics knowledge is poor, better leave it like it is then fry it, or not ??

Thanks

Re:XpertVision Radeon X850 XT, any voltage modding? - 2006/12/24 23:51 I would most definitely leave it alone

560/615 is a very good speed... running extra volts through your card would shorten its life anyway. I run mine at 561/621 after the pencil, which is only 20 mhz on the core higher than before (it's a difference of 0.1 volts). The highest I got it stable was around 580... so in the end, why bother risk destroying the card when you can enjoy it as it is
