Radeon X1800, X1600 & X1300 Performance In 3DMark - 2005/10/02 15:12 Well the first details arrive on the performance of the new upcoming cards from ATI based upon the R520, RV530 and RV515. And the top performing Radeon X1800 XT should reach about 9100 3DMark05...

Re:Radeon X1800, X1600 & X1300 Performance In 3DMark - 2005/10/05 18:49 There's actually the first test about the Radeon X1800 XT and XL...
- XT : 9278 3DMark05
- XL : 7100 3DMark05 (still be lower than GeForce 7800 GTX)

Nice FPS in Battlefield 2, more than the GeForce 7800 GTX. But they don't have any support for OpenGL. In Doom 3, the GeForce 7800 GTX is all the way higher...

For 6 months after the GeForce 7800 GTX, ATI looks good but NVIDIA is already making a 90nm version of GeForce 7800 GTX for the first quarter of 2006.

Mmmm you say it right looks good...but the Radeon X1800 XT is still a month away or even more before we will be able to really by the cards. So again a delay by ATI. For some reason ATI is still running 6-7 months behind as they are just able to match the GeForce 7800 GTX and not even able to just overtake it...

So I think they have more work to do then just a 700MHz core of the Radeon X1800. Let them get more pipelines then 16 and then we will see a difference. But I think by then NVIDIA will have a small refresh with the 90nm version that will be able to reach as well 500-600MHz or even more. The battle only started and from what I see ATI is behind at the tiebreak. A duece with ATI getting backbut not enough...

Right, same for the GeForce 7800 GTX. With 512MB,maybe this could change too. But I still wait to know if there's going to be an Ultra to get almost same performance.

Actually, the Radeon W1800 XT, like you said, will take a month to buy the card, and maybe at a price very high (not sure but I suppose). Those card are the first to be compatible Shader Model 3.0. This is a slap on ATI consumer. To get better performance with HDR, they will need those card, like even if CrossFire would be commercialized, they will have to buy new card.

Thats for some reason I prefer NVIDIA than ATI (and for overclock). By the way, ATI has nice card. Noisy but not bad. They still need to be working harder to be back at 100% in the race.

Re:Radeon X1800, X1600 & X1300 Performance In 3DMark - 2005/10/06 09:58 the 3dmark05 benchmarks seem to be a bit misleading. yes the X1800XT scores about 1500 more points but if u look at this review http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26720 the 7800gtx can hold its own in many games. ati are probably just optimising drivers for it... not that nvidia dont do it too, its just that ati seems to be doing a better job.

it looks like top dog (for a single graphics card anyways) is going to be the one who can OC more and my money is on the X1800XT

Re:Radeon X1800, X1600 & X1300 Performance In 3DMark - 2005/10/06 16:48 imo the 1800xt isnt goin to be all that . ati had the crown with there 9600xt/9800xt line up but they fumbled it when it came to the current line up and still cannot keep up . where as Nvidia fumbled their fx series card but recovered quite quickly with the gforce 6 line up . the only way Ati is remotly goin to catch up is that they need somthing more then just Pixel shader 3 ( btw Nvidia had that since gforce 6 , Now Ati says you can now have Pixel shader 3 but you have to wait till november ) HA HA HA boy thats really innovating .......

That's not the reason. The reason is simply that 3dmark05 uses MUCH higher poly-count for the game scenes than even the most up-to-date games, and so the Radeons have an advantage (8 vertex-pipes @ 625 mhz is simply better than 8 vertexpipes @ 470 Mhz).
Has been the same for X800 vs GF6800 too.
