Looking to flash a couple ATI cards, please help... - 2005/07/19 22:53 I have a GeCube Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB and an ATI Radeon 7500 (64MB...). I don't know what I can do with the Radeon 7500 but its basically going into storage once I upgrade my computer and this becomes my second PC. Anyway what I do want to do is flash my Radeon 9600 Pro into a Radeon 9600 XT, I'm going to look for GeCube BIOS's but I'm not sure what will work so please, any advice would be great. Thanks!

Re:Looking to flash a couple ATI cards, please help... - 2005/07/24 05:06 Wow! I was using ATITool to find my max core and max mem speeds on my Radeon 7500 and well, they are a bit insane! The core isn't but the mem is crazy. Stock speeds are 290/230MHz and well I stopped ATITool but it had it at 303/785MHz... Also said no errors... WTF? What card triples it's clock speed? Damn! If only the high-end cards were capable of that lol, anyway yea, anyone else ever encounter something strange like this? Thanks.

P.S. I'm going to do some tests, run 3DMark at stock, then like 303/300MHz then try the big bad 303/785MHz lol, see if it makes much of a difference. Also I don't have any cooling, no fans around the card, no ramsinks just the dinky little fan on the VPU.

Re:Looking to flash a couple ATI cards, please help... - 2005/07/31 19:46 Well that is indeed strange as the Radeon 7500 shouldn't have that fast memory, so or it is ATITool not showing it right or you have a card with some decent memory chips. You should check what is written on the memory chips then we can check from the specs how fast they can go.

Can you also try the Radeon 9600 Pro and see how fast that one can go with ATITool, then we know if it will be able to make the XT speeds. And can you provide us your Original BIOS of that GeCube Radeon 9600 Pro? Then I can get you normally the good GeCube Radeon 9600 XT BIOS to try.

Re:Looking to flash a couple ATI cards, please help... - 2005/08/01 07:23 Well as I've posted in the BIOS collecting thing, I've had problems using ATITool with the Radeon 7500. I don't know why, but I haven't tried messing with it. I'll test it sometime and see what clock speeds I get and confirm what you got, since we have the same card.

Re:Looking to flash a couple ATI cards, please help... - 2005/08/02 00:16 My defaults are 209/169MHz, the ATITool clock was set to 225/189MHz with 0 errors. Your core increase seems very reasonable. But your mem speed is definitely off. I wouldn't run it at that speed, even if it was ok with your artifact scan.

Re:Looking to flash a couple ATI cards, please help... - 2005/08/02 10:40 Yeps, just as I thought the memory speeds where just completely off from what I would have expected. So don't try to run it at those speeds... Can you check on the card what is written on the memory chips? Then we can check what the memory can do from the paper specs.

Re:Looking to flash a couple ATI cards, please help... - 2005/08/07 04:55 Will get the BIOS another day, currently my friend has the Radeon 9600. Here is what is written on the Radeon 7500 chips...
"Hynix 148A, HY5DV641622AT-4"

In the bottom right corner in small writing is "6F71189P" whatever that number is.

Re:Looking to flash a couple ATI cards, please help... - 2005/08/07 09:27 Okay, thanks. Well that means it is 4ns memory which can go up to 250MHz... But might take yo to around 260-275MHz when overclocking.
