ATI Radeon X800GT is GeForce 6600GT killer... - 2005/07/31 13:21 HKEPC (Japanese/Chinese Site) has a review up on the HIS Radeon X800GT card touted to be the GeForce 6600GT killer. As we know, NVIDIA partners have been enjoying good sales from their 6600GT cards as it faced little competition from ATI's partners with their X700 cards. Now ATI is fighting back with the X800GT card hoping to gain some market share back in the mainstream segment. ATI X800GT card will be using either R480 or R430 cores clocked at 470MHz but has only with 8 active pipelines. Unfortunately, it seems that ATI has locked the pipelines internally therefore it is not possible to unlock the core to 12 or 16 pipelines.

There are two models: 256MB version using GDDR3 2.0ns memories at 980MHz or 128MB version using GDDR1 2.5ns memories at 780MHz. Due launch on August 8th, the card pricing will be determined by each AIB partners but the suggested price for 128MB is around $130 and 256MB is around $149. HIS Radeon X800GT has a special feature called Dual BIOS where in any case the first BIOS failed, the second BIOS can be utilized by setting a jumper.
