Intel's Conroe spanks AMD Athlon 64 FX-62's botty... - 2006/05/23 10:29 Today is intended to be a joyous day for AMD. A day when it successfully launches a range of K8-class processors that adopt a new form-factor, AM2, and sport new DDR2 memory controllers. The crowning glory is set to be the new AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 CPU. It will replace the S939 FX-60 as the standard-bearer and flagship processor for the green team.

Conroe's technolegy is much newer that the AM2 since its just the same as the Socket 939's. If the Conroe didn't beat the AM2 it would be an outrage, let's just see when AMD comes with their nextgen workhorses. But I guess what matters is the present and not the future.

I say let Intel have their so called victory for now... Because AMD will soon take it away once they come out with a new CPU.

So it is an update of their processors to beat AMD. On the other hand AMD also comes with a new processor, namely the one designed for the AM2 socket to go up against the new Intel... So in essence AMD is now running behind while the last year it was quite vise versa.
