GeForce 7300 GS, wrong BIOS flash and computer screwed? - 2007/12/28 10:24 Hello everyone and thanks for reading my first post which is unfortunately asking for help instead of helping others. A day or two ago me and a friend decided to play around with our graphics cards BIOS's to see what was the max performance we could get out of them. We were using a program that lets you configure the BIOS.

He has an ASUS Extreme N7800 while I have an ASUS Extreme N7300 GS, both PCI Express. He then sent me a BIOS through MSN, which he made himself and I thought it was a modified GeForce 7300 BIOS for myself. I then force flashed the graphics card and it said that it was successful then I restarted the computer. It made no beep sound when turned on and I left it for approx 5 minutes till I restarted again.

I am not able to access the floppy because I don't even see the posting of the PC. The computer still works and boots into Windows without the graphics card using the Intel intergrated graphics. The graphics card I believe still works because when it is in the computer the fan runs. I also made a backup of my original BIOS. I would be grateful for any help and advice and I thank you for your time.

Re:GeForce 7300 GS, wrong BIOS flash and computer screwed? - 2007/12/28 11:47 Well since the PC is still booting okay with the integrated graphics card, you are lucky as that means you can easily flash it back using a bootable DOS media like a floppy of USB memory stick. You just have to pout the backup BIOS on it and nvFlash and use the automatic flash command which you set in the "autoexec.bat" file on the bootable DOS media.

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 -y -A backup.rom" (Automatic BIOS Flash)

With the graphics card it does not boot it starts but hangs. It does not even manage to reach the motherboards BIOS flash screen. I tried starting the computer without the graphics card, then put it in when the floppy loads. Then when attempting to re-flash I get an error saying that I have no NVIDIA display adapter.

By the way I keep reading about this "autoexec.bat" file. Do I create it or is it already on when I format the floppy as an Ms-DOS boot disk? Thanks again and I really hope I get out of this somewhat sticky situation.

It is created when you format the floppy as a Ms-DOS startup disk and will normally be empty. So you just add that one line and it shoudl be fine, just make sure both nvFlash and the backup BIOS are on the floppy.

I have done everything you have said but I can not get to the floppy with the graphics card inside the computer. I have done the "autoexec.bat" file and everything else needed on the floppy. Should I setup the intel intergrated grapics as the only graphics adapter or quickly slip the NVIDIA graphics card in after the boot. I have already done so and it frooze the computer or do you have another suggestion? I really want to get this card up and running as soon as possible.

Re:GeForce 7300 GS, wrong BIOS flash and computer screwed? - 2007/12/28 23:29 Well if it doesn't work on your PC then I would try at a friend PC cause some mainboard will recognize the card and boot, so that is currently the only thing you can do to get your card up and running again. It has to boot and start from the floppy or you can't get it back as it was before.

Yes try this, nvFlash should find the card. So meaning to put the Intel card as primary and just leavethe GeForce 7300 GS in the system but doing nothing. Never ever put in or out cards while your PC is running, you are lucky you didn't kill the card or your mainboard.

I know the graphics card still works because its fan still works and it produces a black or pale black screen but does not get into posting. The error I am getting is, no NVIDIA display adapters found. I took the advice to use the Intel intergrated graphics chip as the only display adapter and I still get the error that I have no NVIDIA display adapter. Looks I will have to give up on it sooner or later unless there is a way to reset the card physically like I have read were you use tweezers or something.

To do this you can pull one of the pins required for communcation to GND. I think this is what you meant when asking about tweezer method, it also described in this thread.
Flashed GeForce 6200, with wrong BIOS gave blank screen!

Notice your chip number doesn't have to be starting 25Fxxxx, that just a common type of Atmel flash chips used. The chip can be located on the top or bottom of the card, you might even have to remove the cooler to look for it. It will probaly be a small black chip and have around 8 pins. You should write down the paintings on every chip you find and post it here or use Google to find out if its an serial EEPROM.
