Some GeForce 7900 GTX problems... - 2006/04/13 02:31 Hey, I just recently purchased an EVGA e-GeForce 7900 GTX. I threw it in my PC and installed the driver for it and everything, got the latest updates...but I can't seem to get the good FPS in Call of Duty 2 like I expected. I used to get around 90 frames per second with my Radeon X300 and I expected a good 250-300 frames with this card, but my FPS didn't go up at all. This is the first card I have put in that required a cable for additional power supply, and I bought an extender to reach the plug, and so that it would fit both plugs in.

Both outlets are hooked in the the same one with the extender cable and it runs into my power supply. I think I peak at 480 watts, and I believe thats enough power to run the card. I called technical support and they were no help at all, so I'm asking you guys for any possible suggestions. It could be I just have a bad card, but I don't think that is it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your CPU, mainbaord, ram, power supply and the brand. You could have a 600 watt PSU, and have problem if the PSU is not good enought. Did you plug the extra power with no other device on it?

- 1GB of ram
- Intel P 4 3.0GHz processor
- 480 watt peak load...
- DirectX 9.0
- GeForce 7900 GTX (5.71.22.12.01)
- ForceWare 84.21 drivers...

I put the additional power supply cord on a connector that had alot of wires on it, it was coming off alot of other things but it ran into the power supply. Both plugs are in the same device since I got a molex separater thing to get them both in. Sorry if there's a lack of info I'm not that smart with computers and such.

Because high end cards need a good PSU. I saw a guy that was running a Radeon X1900 XTX on a noname power supply 480W, and he killed the PSU. There's card require alot of watt (well the GeForce 7900 GTX less than the Radeon X1900 XTX), but a good +12V rail. So this is the first thing to know, what is the brand of the PSU, so I could take a look to the specifications...

Re:Some GeForce 7900 GTX problems... - 2006/04/13 13:11 Well I find first of all your frame rates to be very high on a Radeon X300, cause 90 frames per second is a lot so I am guessing you have not put any details on are not much and you are playing at a low resolution? Now the GeForce 7900 GXT can reach around 50 frames a second at a resolution of 1600x1200 with most of the details enabled (high quality). You must know that the new cards will not score that much more on low resolutions and the CPU can't deliver what is needed but at higher resolutions then the GPU actually has more work but can still get high rates where your previous Radeon X300 would just die and provide 5-10 frames a second max...
