ATITool and BIOS overclocking, how to tackle in steps? - 2007/07/27 18:20 Hi once again. I would like some advice on the procedure of overclocking my voltage modded BFG GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB. When I say procedure I don't mean the frequency or voltage manipulation but the order things are done. Let me explain, from what I understood, first we overclock the GPU using ATITool while increasing the voltage to achieve max overclocking. Are there any other tests to run other than artifacts and how long must we run artifacts test?

When I tried to overclock my cards, before voltage modification I couldn't increase neither the core nor the memory not even 1MHz. BFG told me that the frequencies were locked in the BIOS. Is there anything I must do in the BIOS prior the ATITool overclocking? After the best possible results are achieved with ATITool we modify the BIOS with the final frequencies.

Please correct me and advice me if I'm wrong. It's my first time so please help if you can. I searched the forums but couldn't find anything. If I missed a threat please direct me to it. Thanks a lot for reading.

Re:ATITool and BIOS overclocking, how to tackle in steps? - 2007/07/27 22:29 Euh, RivaTuner is your friend. Also make sure the card is cooled well and also you may wanna uncheck the test portion on RivaTuner as well there is a tutorial someplace in here.

Re:ATITool and BIOS overclocking, how to tackle in steps? - 2007/07/28 09:00 Well, that story about BFG and a locked BIOS that is I think just a legend or so, cause if that is the case then every manufacturer would be using it. It is just that some cards don't allow much overclocking with the standard voltage. So when you have increase the voltage to a certain okay level you just start using ATITool and find the max overclocking possible for first the core and the memory and you look at the 3D view to see yellow artifacts. As soon as you see some you stop and see how high the clock speed is.

Once you have done this for the core you do the same for the memory starting again from the default clock speeds. After which you have the two max speeds, one for the core and one for the memory. Now you always need to keep some room so I always subtrack 10MHz on the core speed and 20MHz on the effective memory speed. Then I use RivaTuner or PowerStrip to set those speed and run the 3DMark suites to check if all is working okay. If so then you can set those clocks on the BIOS. Keep in mind as well teh cooling of the card.

Re:ATITool and BIOS overclocking, how to tackle in steps? - 2007/07/28 10:25 My friend Raptor thank you very much for your help. I found a very nice RivaTuner tutorial. Mavke I do not really know how to thank you some times but I'm willing to help these forums for the things I learn everyday in any way needed. Why not make this a sticky so people that attempt this for the first time know exactly what steps to follow?

Re:ATITool and BIOS overclocking, how to tackle in steps? - 2007/07/28 17:26 I know from experience on this forums, is all we ask for is your participation and your insight. Noob or experienced overclocker, computer builder your insight is always welcome...

Right on mate, that is exactly what we are looking for some really nice guys that keep the forums a bit up and running with helping others and sharing their own findings and updates.
