Re:Phenom II X3 and 790GX motherboard, opinions on this setup? - 2009/06/12 05:13 Okay, latest info on Phenom II X3 720 running at 3.53GHz and bus speed at 214MHz to get memory near 1150MHz and NB speed to 2140MHz. I am downloading 3DMark06 as I type with Prime95 running for almost an hour. I'm tempted to raise NB speed more before I run benchmarks though. The core is 1.5125V but don't feel comfortable putting much more on there though for constant use. Temps are steady at 54°C and under 100% load all three cores. I still need to install some games and transfer more files so I'll report more later!

Re:Phenom II X3 and 790GX motherboard, opinions on this setup? - 2009/06/12 11:51 Thanks for the update, and I am really looking forward to some benchmark and gaming results to see what the performance of your system is and also to know what increase you see when comparing to your old system. Great stuff and do keep use posted!

Re:Phenom II X3 and 790GX motherboard, opinions on this setup? - 2009/06/13 22:11 I managed to raise my NB speed to 2352MHz so far. I did get a run at 3DMark06 on my old system which is powered by an Athlon X2 3800+ running at 2.75GHz with a Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 running at 575/1890MHz and scored around 9500 point if I remember correctly. Which was okay for that system and will be the basis to compare it with when looking at the new system based upon the Phenom processor.

Now with my new system based upon the Phenom X3 720 running at 3.53GHz with the same Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 running at 731/1890MHz I am now scoring 13514 point, not bad I guess. Still have not gotten to play any games yet hopefully tonight may play some Unreal Tournament 3 if I can get the updates installed. I'll update with my thoughts later. I will also post these in the benchies section later.

Re:Phenom II X3 and 790GX motherboard, opinions on this setup? - 2009/06/14 11:04 Great stuff and looking good, and scoring about 4000 point more is realy a good boost in performance, which is very nice with yoru new system. Jeps keep us posted on some more.

Re:Phenom II X3 and 790GX motherboard, opinions on this setup? - 2009/06/15 14:03 I finally did some online gaming namely Unreal Tournament 3 yesterday. I used to have to turn off my anti-virus while playing online due to lag issues. I now can keep it on and game play is more responsive than ever. No lag and my movements seemed very snappy compared to my old setup. Unfortunately I forgot about checking the frame rates on game. Unreal Tounament 3 now seems to play like the previous version did on my old setup. Sorry no other games yet though. I don't have anything really new though but I may get Mirror's Edge soon. Will get frame rates on some games this week I hope.

Re:Phenom II X3 and 790GX motherboard, opinions on this setup? - 2009/06/15 15:01 Okay, well we generally test with other games such as Crysis and Far Cry 2 which is quite demanding, while Unreal Tournament 3 isn't so demanding really, at least not for an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and your Phenom II X3 should neither be much impacted. But Crysis etc do stress these processors and graphics cards a bit more.

Re:Phenom II X3 and 790GX motherboard, opinions on this setup? - 2009/06/22 14:17 I did get to run the demo for Crysis on my setup the other day, and so I did try to do some benchmarking with it which I am just sharing as is. Though no other games yet.

Crysis Gaming Results...
- 1280x1024 - High (no AA) : 30-50 fps
- 1600x1200 - High (no AA) : 20-40 fps

Great stuff mate, thanks for sharing with us these results. If you get any other games please do continue to share the outcome of your benchmarks. And well hopefully some others will be inspired to do the same.
