Re:What about Games...and Games? - 2010/05/15 22:51
Helloooo I need to...I will be probably entitled like a nostalgic one...here it is what I have to say... In the last three years the game scenario has been the one where the console playing machines have been chosen as target systems in favour of pc desktop solutions. I have seen poor game ports which nothing more added other than a higher video resolution and maybe some better textures. This is something that have frustraded me for three years so on and sincerly no good game title like a "bioshock" one could make me be a bit more confident. The truth seems to be that we are spending a lot of money for powerfull machines not being used at all and the story is always the same: A shame first person shooter is being released for M$ of $ony consoles and immediatly after a port is going to be adapted for PC. The special case for "Alan Wake" is something that need to be monitored apart: that game have been rumored since four years and at Remedy something happened in order to let them discard the PC platform; I am sure we all know the truth...but the point is that probably some people staf have gone and at Remedy the big heads had to pay some cash for that people to go home. M$ probably did adjust the situation with their "politics". So we are meeting us on these forums and others to show our numbers taken with old benchmarks, with poor optimizations for actual hardware and waiting for what? For a miracle? Nothing will change in the next years...big publishers are making the role the big bosses assigned them...small developer teams are more and more vanishing out of the playing table. Taking nowadays a nvidia gtx 480 or an amd 5870x2 is a big mistake...that kind of hardware will be probalby used when the next consoles will be launched and at this time nothing is certain. And if someone here is saying he/she like the most eye candy AA, AF, and high resolution...well, probably those people are lying to themselves! An amd 4890/5770/5830 graphics card class nowadays will be enough to play the most demanded game ports: for sure when a gtx 480 will be probably needed to enjoy the next gen games then a middle class graphics adapter will compare to the top class adapters of these days. There have been appeared some articles on gamasutra site stating that the gaming situation will be probably shift and the PC will be revisited to host the most beauty games...I am not sure this will happen, not in the short time. Then there is another aspect to consider apart the graphics beauty...the last games we have played (here I am referring to all the most common played in the last three years) did bring something new? Apart mentioning "Mirror Edge" I can not find anything special in the last standing ones...for sure the violence is always the same common aspect that need to be prevalent in all those non sense titles (I am discarding title names, sorry but I am sure here also we know of what and who I am referring to). It is shame but I am playing with Grid and Mirror Edge for more than a year and this scenario is disgusting me more and more time passes. Poor game ports, extreme violence anywere, no pc optimization except for the physx (really needed?) stuff, no new game play addiction. Maybe these are the reason why I took out of the box my old dreamcast. Probably the next step I am going to embrace is to play the oldy and good Super Mario Saga.
