Backing up GeForce GTX 280 SSC before flashing for solution? - 2010/02/24 05:54 Hello, I'm looking to backup my EVGA e-GeForce GTX 280 SSC edition graphics card. I tried the process to backup using nvFlash v5.13 and it shows no NVIDIA display adapters found. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks.

Re:Backing up GeForce GTX 280 SSC before flashing for solution? - 2010/02/24 10:42 Yes, we know what is wrong. You have to make sure to use a newer version of nvFlash, cause the one you are referencing is a too old version. Just so you know, NVIDIA is releasing a new version of nvFlash each time that new cards get released so that these new cards are at that point supported to make a backup and also flash if needed afterwards.

Re:Backing up GeForce GTX 280 SSC before flashing for solution? - 2010/02/24 16:18 Thanks for the info, should I be using nvFlash v5.72 rather? Also, I'm having problems with my card showing green artifacts in Windows and startup. It seems like a heating problem but I used the Precision software to check the temps and its between 40-50°C, and I can turn the fan on full and it still does it so it doesn't seem like one. I'm out of warranty by two months as I forgot to register within 30 days for the lifetime warranty unfortunately so I'm looking for options.

I have attached a picture of what is happening, and have others also. Green artifact blocks during boot, and pink/green lines across the screen in Windows. I wanted to flash to a newer version of my BIOS if possible, or try another one from such as the FTW version? Thanks again for you help!

Re:Backing up GeForce GTX 280 SSC before flashing for solution? - 2010/02/24 17:29 Can you provide us a copy of your original BIOS, so yes use a newer version of nvFlash and try with the newest we have and that should work. Can you get that done? And don't think about flashing your card before we can check things out, and certainly not the FTW version as that is clocked even higher than your current version!

Re:Backing up GeForce GTX 280 SSC before flashing for solution? - 2010/02/25 18:28 Okay, I captured and attached the current BIOS of my graphics card, but wasn't sure what to name it.

Re:Backing up GeForce GTX 280 SSC before flashing for solution? - 2010/02/25 21:19 Good, so we checked the BIOS and there is nothing wrong with it and I would still suggest that you register the graphics card with EVGA cause even after 30 days you can still do that and have the warranty being applied. Cause I am afraid that even with flashing the card to a lower BIOS like from the SC version which is clocked at a lower speed you will still face artifacts most likely due to some bad memory chips. And for such expensive cards you can be sure that EVGA will apply the warranty.

Re:Backing up GeForce GTX 280 SSC before flashing for solution? - 2010/03/01 16:21 Hey, thanks for checking out the BIOS for me, and I had called EVGA three times before and couldn't get anywhere. I ended up getting an email address of the RMA manager and emailed him with my issues and passed the 30 days before I registered and he gave me an one time replacement RMA. Thanks very much for the help, for checking the BIOS and suggesting that EVGA really should do something, as I had given up. And I have donated $15 for the assistance. Thanks again.

You are welcome, and it was my pleasure to assist you and I am glad to took it up with EVGA as they should keep the warranty even when you don't register. In fact registration is just a nice to have, but isn't mandatory legally for the warranty to be effective. So well done, and if all ours visitors would be so generous with a donation we would be able to release some more NiBiTor versions. Thank you very much, it is greatly appreciated!
