Gigabyte GeForce 6800 and trying to update the BIOS version? - 2008/09/04 04:43 I'm trying to flash my graphics card to the lates BIOS and it's failing. I have a Gigabyte GeForce 6800 (DH) with 128MB memory. I downloaded the BIOS from Gigabyte site and the latest version is the .F4. I made my boot disc and I typed in the specific Gigabyte command. But it tells me the BIOS doesn't match the BIOS. I've tried all the BIOS version and I get the same message, can some one help me what am I doing wrong?

Re:Gigabyte GeForce 6800 and trying to update the BIOS version? - 2008/09/04 12:53 What program are you using to try to flash your Gigabyte GeForce 6800? As for commands in nvFlash from a DOS boot disk you should use what is listed below. The best tool for flashing a NVIDIA based card is nvFlash.

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash -b mybios.rom" (Backup Original BIOS)
"nvflash -5 -6 newbios.rom" (Normal BIOS Flash)
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 newbios.rom" (Forced BIOS Flash)

Re:Gigabyte GeForce 6800 and trying to update the BIOS version? - 2008/09/04 18:46 Wow thanks for the quick reply! I do have nvFlash but being some what newbish here how would I do it? Do I have to rename the BIOS from Gigabyte to a ".rom"? Thanks.

Re:Gigabyte GeForce 6800 and trying to update the BIOS version? - 2008/09/04 23:12 I would assume it will have to be a ".rom" file for nvFlash, and extracting it to a ".rom" should not be to difficult. Or you could check the BIOS section here for a newer BIOS. You are just trying to get latest version on your card ? So nothing is wrong? Cool, then I would for sure be checking to get some more performance from your Gigabyte GeForce 6800, such as with RivaTuner to see if there are any pipes that can be unlock and then modding any BIOS that you decide to use with some higher speeds, keeping the card stable of course.

Some vanilla GeForce 6800 were able to unlock extra pixel and vertex processors, with a simple check of boxes and reboot. Some even got them flashed to the GT BIOS as there is a 128MB version of the GeForce 6800 GT, just have to compare the memory and speeds for close match and get some nerve to try it. And have read up on how to recover from a bad flash, like blind flash if no PCI card to help with, yes, flashing is isky business...

Re:Gigabyte GeForce 6800 and trying to update the BIOS version? - 2008/09/05 03:32 So you say you tried all four BIOS's for this card from Gigabyte downloads? There are four versions of BIOS's for this card in the downloads section. Do you think they may be in ".rom" form and all same BIOS, as Gigabyte provide? I would be inclined to try them...

Yeah the Gigabyte stuff isn't really the best flashing method, so don't use it. And you can just rename the Gigabyte file to a ".rom" basically and try to flash with nvFlash.

Re:Gigabyte GeForce 6800 and trying to update the BIOS version? - 2008/09/07 03:01 Just wanted to say thanks to all the people that helped me. I now have my card in my main computer up and running with the new BIOS. Thanks!

Re:Gigabyte GeForce 6800 and trying to update the BIOS version? - 2008/09/07 15:57 You are more than welcome mate, I am glad you got it working and yeah just keep in mind the official NVIDIA tools always work better than those of their partners, who think they can do it their own way but don't really know all behind the logic of flashing. Even we know more than some.
