PNY GeForce 9600 GT and flashing what is the best out there? - 2008/09/03 19:36 I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what the best BIOS is that I can flash my PNY GeForce 9600 GT with? I would like to flash it to like a GeForce 9800 GTX or something like that but I'm not sure what the best is that I can go with.

Sorry it will never be more than a GeForce 9600 GT though with programs available here, like NiBiTor and nvFlash and a backup of your GeForce 9600 GT original BIOS, you can optimize its performance. But if you really want to flash with some other cards BIOS please let us know how it went. We may be able to help recover from the doorstop position, your newly bricked GeForce 9600 GT no clock! Just kidding, lol.

Re:PNY GeForce 9600 GT and flashing what is the best out there? - 2008/09/04 05:53 Good idea, asking before flashing, not all do, I read a whole lot on BIOS flashing before actually doing my first. You are in the right place. The guides for the programs we use are very helpful, as are many people here, when you feel you are ready and confident enough to backup and reflash your GeForce 9600 GT just post what you would like, and I'm sure someone will respond.

Using RivaTuner or ATITool you will need to find out what the highest stable clocks of your card are, then reducing for safety slightly by 10-20MHz and with NiBiTor you can edit these speeds in your BIOS, save it then reflash with the new saved BIOS. Be sure to backup and save your original BIOS first and post it here. You will have to use nvFlash and a bootable DOS media to reflash your BIOS...

I can't resist actually to just come back on this and why are none of you first using a bit of common sense? Why would you think a GeForce 9600 GT would ever become a GeForce 9800 GTX? Are you nuts, or you just think NVIDIA is such a stupid company they would make cards of different budget that can be flashed? No, and that has never been the case. The only thing possible is to stay within the same range of GPU which in your case is the G94 and you got the highest card in that range. So you can just overclock your card and tweak your BIOS as such.

I am glad you asked before trying, most of the time it is the other way around and that is less pleasant as it is not always that easy to restore the card with the original BIOS. And if that can't be done, you can only try an RMA but most brands won't accept it.
