Alienware m15x, GeForce 8800M GTX subsystem mismatch? - 2008/06/16 11:56 Hi there, for some reason when I try to flash the GeForce 8800M GTX BIOS on my Alienware m15x and I get an error with nvFlash. I'm not sure if its nvFlash or user error. This is with a unedited BIOS image from NiBiTor and nvFlash images give the same error.

nvFlash SubSystem Mismatch...
Warning : Firmware image PCI subsystem ID (10DE.0556) does not match adapter PCI subsystem ID (152D.0770).
Error : PCI subsystem ID mismatch.

It seems that NiBiTor gives me an error when I try to read my BIOS and save directly as a file. Reading the BIOS then save works though. The error is data position and/or length out of data bounds. Not sure if these two are related? Anyhow how can I fix the BIOS image to correctly match the BIOS on the card? All I want to do is change the core shader and memory and keep the rest the same as what's on the card. I attached the BIOS from NiBiTor.

You should not try any other BIOS from somewhere else, you should make sure to use your own original BIOS backup and update the frequency rates in your BIOS and flash that BIOS again on your graphics card. That should be the way to do this, and is actually the best option.

Re:Alienware m15x, GeForce 8800M GTX subsystem mismatch? - 2008/06/16 14:15 Thanks, yes that is what I'm trying to do. but I'm not sure why the subsystem ID changes from 0770 to 0556. I know you can use nvflash and it would work. But will that mess anything up? Should I edit the BIOS in NiBiTor and put the 0770 back in for the subsystem ID?

Re:Alienware m15x, GeForce 8800M GTX subsystem mismatch? - 2008/06/16 16:06 If that is what you are doing by just changing the clock speeds and the subsystem ID is changing than there is an issue with NiBiTor and by all means don't flash as your card won't work as it should any longer. So which version of NiBiTor are you using?

Re:Alienware m15x, GeForce 8800M GTX subsystem mismatch? - 2008/06/16 16:40 I am using NiBiTor v4.1. good thing I asked. Yes it seems that when you select device the subvendor is 152D and subsystem is 0770 in the select device window. But when you read into NiBiTor they change to subvendor 10DE and subsystem 0556. And both Everest and GPU-Z are lissting the subvendor as 152D.

Okay can you than also share the BIOS which you extracted with GPU-Z? Cause than we can see the difference as well and see how this comes and if we can somehow make a fix.
