XFX GeForce 8800 GTX Extreme to Ultra, higher overclocks? - 2008/05/08 17:04 Hi, I just upgraded the stock cooler with the Arctic Cooler Xtreme 8800 and my temps are really good at 48ºC. The problem is that I can't go higher than 621/2000MHz with the shader running at 1512MHz. I think its the 1.30V of the BIOS. So should I put an Ultra BIOS on it? Any Ultra BIOS will work, as I have some of them already... Will the Ultra BIOS change the voltage to 1.35V as the Ultra's have? I have never done a BIOS upgrade, and I read a lot and I saw different opinions. I will be happy with 650-660MHz core. Can you help?

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GTX Extreme to Ultra, higher overclocks? - 2008/05/08 19:13 The answer is very simple, it won't make any difference at all. Why? Well the GeForce 8800 GTX and the Ultra use the same VID index level though the voltage circuitry on the GTX will at that level give 1.30V and the voltage vircuitry of the Ultra will give 1.35V. And since it is the same level in the BIOS if you use the Ultra in the GTX the voltage will remain 1.30V and when you would use a GTX on an Ultra it will also remain at 1.35V. So really flashing to the Ultra will make no difference at all.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GTX Extreme to Ultra, higher overclocks? - 2008/05/08 20:59 Oh, I think I wasted money on the new cooler. The card runs much cooler but the overclock will be the same, just 621MHz. So the only way is the voltage modification, I saw on other websites how to do it, but I think the instructions are not totally clear. Can somebody tell me a guide. Thank you very much.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GTX Extreme to Ultra, higher overclocks? - 2008/05/10 16:02 Well just for info we are not a site that is into the hardware modifications it that is what you mean with your voltage tweak? Cause as mentioned you will not gbe able to do a voltage change via the BIOS which is our territory actually. I personally am not a fan of hardware modifications, as it could easily screw up permanently your graphics card and also shortens the life of it.
