Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 and having some BIOS flash issue? - 2009/06/14 20:56 But what is the command to erase? I tried to flash normally with the ATIFlash but what I get is the error I posted in the last post...

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 and having some BIOS flash issue? - 2009/06/15 12:40 Okay, I tried to flash several times but always get the same result. I also tried to save the current BIOS of the card for testing and it saves a zero bytes file. After that I tried the WinFlash program but it opens the progress bar and close fastly, I tried using my on-board and another PCI video card but same result. Well the card is detected now but I'm not able to flash a BIOS in it. It is detected by Windows and software as a RV670 card, but RivaTuner detect as a 32-bit memory bus card, but I'm able to control the fan speed.

And one doubt, when I made the contact between the pins and the card starts being detected there was a small spark is that okay? For that reason I'm thinking that I damaged the chip and sorry because I'm having some problems to speak since I don't speak English that well. And thanks for the help!

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 and having some BIOS flash issue? - 2009/06/15 13:57 Again that is rather normal the behavior that you get and we have seen it many times before though a bit more with NVIDIA cards and the solution on those was to basically get the firmware data erased, and as far as I recall that is feasible as well for ATI but I didn't get around to finding to the exact command to get it done. And that you get a empty byte file when backing up the current BIOS is normal as well, which we have seen many times before. The other solution that sometimes works is a full hard forced flashing.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 and having some BIOS flash issue? - 2009/06/15 14:36 I'm trying with the force command but no result. I found on Google that ATIFlash have some specific bypass algorithm for some chips, but not for the PCM one that I have. Maybe that's the problem. What is a full hard forced flashing? Thanks!

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 and having some BIOS flash issue? - 2009/06/15 19:23 Okay mate, I just spoke with a good friend that has done some re-flashes of bad ATI cards and this is the trick that was given. You put again the connection between the pin 1 (CE) and pin 4 (GND) and boot the computer via a bootable DOS media. Once that is done remove the connection while running, this will do an enable chip operation and flash immediately afterwards. That should normally work.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 and having some BIOS flash issue? - 2009/07/03 13:34 Okay, I tried again to make the connection between the pins, but nothing changed. So I don't know if there is anything that can be done but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 and having some BIOS flash issue? - 2009/07/03 18:59 Mmm, well teh other way could work as well and that is that the pin 1 (CE) might need a high voltage. Cause that is not all all clear for ATI cards, some require to be grounded and other need to get a high voltage to actually reset the chip select. So that is the other option to try by connecting it now with the high voltage pin and do the same, booting up, removing the connection and flash immediately.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 and having some BIOS flash issue? - 2009/07/10 00:33 ok,
would be connect the VCC pin to CE?

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 and having some BIOS flash issue? - 2009/07/10 10:06 Euh yes, that is the high voltage right? As explained there are two ways to reset the firmware either it happens when shortened with the ground or either with the high voltage, and at that point the chip select should refresh itself so you can flash it with a fresh BIOS and normally get it working again. Several persons have done this and this works, as I did get some extra feedback from my friend on this.
