Got nv4_disp.dll in an endless loop, what does this mean? - 2008/07/15 09:44 Sometimes my system hangs and then I have to do a complete reboot, meaning power off because nothing responds anymore. When I look in the services logfiles it says at that time, nv4_disp.dll in an endless loop. Anybody knows what that means? I know that nv4_disp.dll is a driver file from the NVIDIA ForceWare drivers. I use the ForceWare 169.21 drivers on my GeForce 8800 GT card. Thanks in advance. Best regards...

Re:Got nv4_disp.dll in an endless loop, what does this mean? - 2008/07/15 11:09 Try some other drivers maybe? I remember getting that error a long time ago on Windows ME I think, which is kind of expected. I don't remember how I got around it though sorry.

Re:Got nv4_disp.dll in an endless loop, what does this mean? - 2008/07/15 14:35 Well I would advice to uninstall the drivers, and re-install from scratch as this is typically when the drivers didn't install completely. I have had that already several times due to the many graphics card changes. So I would suspect you are having a similar issue there.

Re:Got nv4_disp.dll in an endless loop, what does this mean? - 2008/07/16 02:42 Make sure to use Drivercleaner or Driver Sweeper to get rid of files and registry keys that are left over from the normal uninstallation as this will reduce the likelyhood of problems with many driver reinstallations, especially if you change to an earlier driver version.

Re:Got nv4_disp.dll in an endless loop, what does this mean? - 2008/07/16 03:56 Well, okay, then I will do a complete uninstall of my drivers and install the latest official ones from NVIDIA, the ForceWare 175.19 for my Windows XP Home edition. Thanks for the replies guys! Best regards...

Re:Got nv4_disp.dll in an endless loop, what does this mean? - 2008/07/16 08:21 You were right again! Before I uninstalled I checked the version of the "nv4_disp.dll" and that was version 57.73. Then I uninstalled and ran DriverSweeper, then reboot and installed ForceWare 169.21 drivers again and then the "nv4_disp.dll" was version 69.21 like it should be in ForceWare 169.21. I guess that version 57.73 was a leftover from an older version of the ForceWare drivers in my system. I'm glad I found it with your help. Thanks to all.

Re:Got nv4_disp.dll in an endless loop, what does this mean? - 2008/07/16 09:44 That's NVIDIA drivers for you, and indeed uninstalling and really sweeping is the best option to get the drivers removed and after that to install again. Good to see it's working now.

Re:Got nv4_disp.dll in an endless loop, what does this mean? - 2008/07/16 10:22 Excellent mate, that is indeed what I thought it would have been, couldn't be much else really. And yes a cleaner or sweeper is an extra to add when uninstalling drivers and that counts not only for NVIDIA, but also for ATI for the same matter.
