Re:GeForce 8800 GTX and issue with running in SLI config mode? - 2010/01/23 12:27 Hi would i be better running 1 card at x16 than the x8 x4 set up.
IS SLI in x8 x4 still faster than 1 card.

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX and issue with running in SLI config mode? - 2010/01/23 13:12 If you are having such results with performance it simply means the graphics cards are not working in SLI mode at all. Even when one card would be running at only x4 you should almost the same performance as two cards running fine in SLI with both being set at x8. So once again stop blaming the cards, rather blame your mainboard and do what I said switch both card around and see what that gives. As it could be an issue with second PCI Express interface of the mainboard.

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX and issue with running in SLI config mode? - 2010/01/23 14:47 Okay, I tried swapping cards around and no picture on monitor but could hear Windows Vista starting through speakers. So plugged the DVI cable into ASUS card which is in the second slot and that worked but the control panel did not have option for SLI config, and showed s disabled. So I went back to my original config. Then tried PassMark in SLI mode and score was 928 and with SLI disabled got score of 932. Then switched small board round to single GPU and ran with one card and got score of 948.

Still think these are low scores for a Core 2 Quad Q6600 system with 4GB memory and a GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card. Anyway I think the NVIDIA card could be playing up but also think mainboard has problems as well. Weird how the NVIDIA card is recognised in second slot and not the first one. Going to try it in a friends computer. Thanks for the help mate, I think I will put up with it for a while maybe get new a computer by end of year.

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX and issue with running in SLI config mode? - 2010/01/23 17:05 Thanks for doing so, and actually have you ever tried each card individually whe you bought them? Somehow that NVIDIA one is not working the way it should, which you can only determine with only one card installed in the system, which is something I always do even if I am upgrading to an SLI config, I always try each card on its own to be sure it works perfectly. In your case I don't know, and maybe the NVIDIA version didn't work or doesn't work fine any more due to he flash with the other BIOS. Either way, if seems there is a bit more to it then initially expectd.

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX and issue with running in SLI config mode? - 2010/01/23 17:21 Yeah, tried it just before I flashed and was not getting a picture on the monitor but could hear the hard drive spin and stuff like it was going to boot up. Thought it was my mainboard, so I think card and mainboard are not working correctly as the trouble I had with second hard disk. If I move my hard disk into another slot the computer will not boot up, an I need to reboot to get it up and running again. That's why I thought maybe the card was okay. I think both are gubbed, thanks again. Anyway, I will recommend this site to anyone, very fast response to problems. Cheers.

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX and issue with running in SLI config mode? - 2010/01/23 17:28 Well I would believe so too, though the NVIDIA card we might be able to get back running well as long as we are able to flash the right BIOS on it. Now that is a very bard task since it wasn't working since the beginning. Normally when you buy a card you check it works, if not you return it. So how did you get this card, new? Somehow I assume no warranty on it any longer? In that case I would suggest to flash it with the oldest BIOS for the GeForce 8800 GTX around and see what that gives. And fast forums I don't know, but we try to give quality answers. And by all means spread the word and visitors our avertisers.
