Hmm, it did work perfectly in another computer. I couldn't check differences in perfomance in games, cause the CPU's are very different. But well, this means that the problem is with my computer. Oh, I nearly forgot it, happy new year!
Excellent, which is rather what I was already expecting since the start that it was not your graphics card but something with the computer itself, which can be different things. You should check maybe first your power supply, or just dismantle your computer, clean it and put it back together. And indeed happy new year!

Re:GeForce 8600 GT plugged cable and got checkerboard image? - 2010/01/15 18:30 Sorry about the delay, I had a few issues, and I had to install Windows XP. When it booted everything seemed perfect, but the problem is still there but not very noticeable as before. The desktop is completely clean, no sign of the patterns. I executed a game, main menu clean, loading screen clean, game itself at the first look it appeared like everything was fine, but it wasn't. You can see the pattern in the black zones of the menu and some discrepancies in the ship.

In some emulators the pattern is full present, although not as much as the Need for Speed screenshot from the first shot. I followed your tips, dismantled and cleaned the computer entirely, opened the power supply and cleaned it too. In the past I had some problems with my last power supply, It was 450W, and it exploded two months after buying it while running a heavy game. Now, I have a 500W one. Also, my PC have serious overheating problems, runs quite warm but put a big fan next to it. Is somewhat related to this?

Well either it is somehow the combination of the hardware that is causing these issues, or what I believe the interference somehow with that big fan you put next to the computer which you somehow need to reduce the heat but that isn't a good solution as such a computer should with normal cooling never get so hot. And if it does that on its own is also a source that can cause permanent damage, and be a source of artifacts.

She can't, if I don't put that fan some light games, programs, and even safe mode makes the computer overheat. As you can see it's nonsense, I can run heavy aplications like Google Earth, but I can't enter safe mode for more than 10-20 seconds. It's summer here with 33ºC, but I don't think that's normal. I'm starting to distrust the power supply.

Re:GeForce 8600 GT plugged cable and got checkerboard image? - 2010/01/16 10:18 Hehe, I am sorry but that is just nuts. If you can't run the computer without that big extra fan you put in front of it than you have a big issue as normal hardware that functions how it should will never require that. So for me that alone is sufficient to explain why you have those artifacts even at 33°C in summer. Something or just the combination of what you got is just overheating and then it is normal that you have such behavior. But only you can find out what the real cause is...
