Re:XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/06/19 23:28 DarkFox wrote:
Maybe try a GeForce 7600 GT BIOS, it's the same core, namely the G73, so it should work if the memory is the same. That should also give you the required voltage to run at 560MHz which is the stock speed for the GeForce 7600 GT.
Don't try it just like that as you will ruin your graphics card. When you are going up in versions you always need to check very clearly the changes and that means that the GeForce 7600 GT is using much better and faster memory, meaning GDDR3 memory versus only DDR2 on your card which is the reason you can only hit 800MHz. Secondly the memory timings will be different. And lastly it is not always a given that a upper version BIOS will make a change on the voltage level as it is not really the BIOS deciding but the voltage circuit an dthe interpretation of the VID levels.

That means that if a certain VID level would give 1.3V on the GeForce 7600 GT and on the GeForce 7300 GT that could be that the exact same VID level would only give 1.1V, and then a BIOS flash won't do anything. What you can try is to first look at the detailed voltage level of both cards before you try something to really see if the VID levels or different. If else you are just trying something that won't do anything at all.

Re:XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/06/20 01:08 The card is now working well with the GeForce 7600 GS BIOS and I'm gonna let it like that. If I would screw up the card then my wife would go berserk on me I guess. Anyway, thanks again for the advice.

I didn't even think of the DDR2 versus GDDR3 memory. Good thing you pointed that out. I did mention that it would only work if the memory is the same, but I don't know why I even thought it would be when you are talking a budget versus mid-range card. That's me not thinking again.

I don't fully understand VID levels so that's something I'll have to research. But if he selected a VID which gives 1.3V on the GeForce 7300 GT BIOS assuming it has that option, that should work shouldn't it? Or am I confusing myself even more?

Re:XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/06/20 05:28 I'm glad you are keeping as a GeForce 7600 GS. Enjoy, I assumed that you would make sure all was a match including memory before flashing, wasn't there a version of the GeForce 7600 GT with DDR2? Not sure though its been awhile.

Re:XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/06/20 06:12 According to wikipedia there are GDDR3 and DDR2 versions. If there are 1GB ones would probably have DDR2 memory.

Re:XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/06/20 08:44 Okay, BIOSTAR made a 256MB DDR2 PCI Express version, after some checking I also find ASUS made one also. And EVGA has an AGP one listed as GeForce 7600 GT with DDR2.

Re:XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/06/20 09:44 Well, that card would suck as DDR2 memory is for old and low-end graphics cards. And that is also why those cards are coming at a cheaper price.

Re:XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/07/28 11:20 Since this is a card with DDR2 the max you will get out of the memory will be between 700-900MHz, so don't expect miracles. But on the core more might be feasible as it is a core that is tuned down with a low voltage setting, so increasing it will do some great stuff.
