Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/16 22:30 Kodiak wrote:
Maybe I just got lucky? Who knows? In fact I can use a bit of luck from time to time. Quick question, I also have a tube of heatpaste with 5% silver and 5% copper in it. Is that one better than the white one? Best regards...
Euh, nope it is not always better and the high perfromance thermal paste that Arctic Cooling and OCZ are making ar enow much better and also avoid to have silver and copper as it guide electric current and that is actually not really so good for a thermal paste. I am always using Arctic Cooling MX-2 high performance paste, which always lowers the temps the extra mile.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/17 03:07 Arctic Cooling ceramique is good for GPU's as well. It has smaller particles than Arctic Silver 5, which is good for a bare GPU with no heatspreader since the die surface has smaller cracks than a heatspreader does and the smaller particles can get in to those cracks easier. Arctic Silver 5 would be better for something like the GeForce GTX 280 which has a heatspreader on it. But as Mavke said, it does conduct a small amount of electricity so you don't want to spill it anywhere.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/07/28 11:18 Look, the days of the ceramique stuff is over the new high performance thermal compound is now better than these and the ceramique can't really get much improved while these thermal compounds can. So really again I would really advice some high grade compound like the Arctic Cooling MX-2 compound that does an excellent job.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/07/28 11:37 Yeah that is true, but it costs more than both Arctic Silver 5 and Ceramique, sometimes by as much as $5, so that should be taken into account.

Sorry to see and say, but for us in Europe this is not always the case at least not for me. Here the thermal compound of Arctic Cooling is not more expensive. And then again what is $5 really? If I count that back in euro it is peanuts...

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/07/29 01:55 That's why I used that smilie, I was joking about how much I care about the extra $5 and yeah I guess prices do change from country to country.

Hehe, okay I was thinking that as well. But thanks for the update on this and yes it will depend from country to country but it shouldn't but that much money really.
