BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 cards, and strange SLI problem? - 2008/06/06 13:52 I'm running two BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 cards in SLI, both in the blue PCI Express slots, exactly how it's supposed to be setup as detailed in the manual. This problem only occurs when SLI is enabled, the problem doesn't persist when SLI is not enabled. The problem is that the system freezes when I play video files after about 10 seconds, no sound, no mouse and/or keyboard input however picture is still present, yet frozen. I have to hard restart the computer to resolve this.

It also happens in games, but it freezes after a longer time, roughly 30 minutes or so. I've tested the graphics cards individually and they are both working fine. I've also tested multiple SLI bridges to no avail. I've updated all the drivers, motherboard BIOS, etc to the latest versions, reinstalled Windows several times and changed numerous options in the NVIDIA control panel.

The one thing I noticed was that the video BIOS is different on the two cards, one is 60.80.0E.00.15, the other is 60.80.0E.00.05. It seems the second card is the 60.80.0e.00.05 BIOS, on the second card the IRQ is stated as 0, whereas the first card the IRQ is stated 16. I haven't overclocked and have the BIOS settings set at default. Again this problem only occurs with SLI enabled. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Current System Specifications...
- ASUS Striker II Extreme Gaming Mainboard
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 2.66GHz 12MB Cache
- 2x BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 Graphics Card
- Corsair Twin3X 2GB DDR3 PC3-10600 Memory
- Corsair HX 1000W Modular Power Supply
- Windows XP Professional with SP3
- NVIDIA ForceWare 175.16 Drivers

Re:BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 cards, and strange SLI problem? - 2008/06/06 14:56 Okay, before I will start I would like that you make a backup of the original BIOS of both cards and to attach these on this thread so we can review. As you might know, the best solution for SLI is that both cards have the same BIOS though from what you describe I would somehow believe it is more linked to something else. Though before we go a step further I first want to check the BIOS's. Can that be done?

Re:BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 cards, and strange SLI problem? - 2008/06/06 20:50 Having checked now both the BIOS's I have to say that you don't have tow the same cards. Meaning you have one OC and one OC2 version of the BFG GeForce 8800 GTX graphics edition. That means that these cards don't run at the same clock speeds and therefore could certainly give issues while running in SLI mode. So the BIOS version ending in .05 is actually an OC edition that runs at 600MHz core and the one ending in .15 is really the OC2 version which runs at 626MHz core. So on that aspect I would advice to flash the OC version to the OC2 version and than try again the SLI mode.
