GeForce 9800 GTX versus GeForce 8800 GTX which is better? - 2008/04/28 05:28 Hello, I would like to ask which is better the GeForce 9800 GTX or the GeForce 8800 GTX? Currently I'm building a new PC for my brother and I have a GeForce 8800 GTX that I use clocked at 635/2000MHz and I was planing to to get a new video card which I think I'll be using. So I'm confused as on other site they are claiming the GeForce 8800 GTX cause of the 768MB memory is better than the GeForce 9800 GTX with 512MB. I'm gonna use it on a 22inch LCD so my top resolution is at 1680x1050. Which one should be faster in gaming? I'll also overclock the GeForce 9800 GTX if I get one, and I need your advice on this.

Well, I would certainly opt for the GeForce 9800 GTX as you will get better performance out of it when overclocking. Secondly the GeForce 8800 GTX is not the best overclocker, though it comes with more memory and a greater memory interface, the GeForce 9800 GTX is optimized and is of better yields and doesn't get that warm. So I would just go for the GeForce 9800 GTX, cause once overclocked it can even beat an Ultra version.

Re:GeForce 9800 GTX versus GeForce 8800 GTX which is better? - 2008/04/29 02:09 Agree with Mavke. The shrink to a 65nm process versus a 90nm process means lower power consumption which is good for keeping it cool and good for the electricity bill.

Yes indeed, but also a bit more as it is a more optimized core and it comes with some new technology which is HybridPower which allows even less usage when not needed, and it should also allow Hybrid SLI in the future.

Re:GeForce 9800 GTX versus GeForce 8800 GTX which is better? - 2008/04/29 15:43 Okay wow, nice thanks for the info, and one of my video card suppliers told me he can sell my old MSI GeForce 8800 GTX OC version and replace it with a Palit GeForce 9800 GTX for free should I go for it?

Re:GeForce 9800 GTX versus GeForce 8800 GTX which is better? - 2008/04/30 03:15 By all means, yes go for it. And just remember to upload the BIOS in the appropriate thread, so that we have a reference as well.

Well I would go for that, and the reason why the supplier can do that is most likely cause they have some customers who are willing to buy a GeForce 8800 GTX to build a 3-Way SLI system, which requires three GeForce 8800 GTX's and they are hard to get as no longer made by NVIDIA really. So go for the GeForce 9800 GTX.
