Re:Who is owning a GeForce 8800 GT, and ready for tweaking? - 2008/03/10 19:03You just use the simple function in NiBiTor to first find out which TimingSet is used on your card, by ysing the Auto Select TimingSet. Once you know which one you just need to tweak the values on that TimingSet to change the memory timings. The other TimingSet you don't change as they will never be used.

And one more thing why when I press test timing then get timing and then when I press set timing I receive error? And by the way is it right to change the timing value in detailed timings?

Re:Who is owning a GeForce 8800 GT, and ready for tweaking? - 2008/03/10 23:19Well what you do is up to you but change all the values will not make much change, the first value in the detailed timings is the most important and will have the most impact, the others will almost do nothing especially not with memory already clocked at 1600MHz and higher... And I would only change by upping by one. But don't expect much, as with these high speed memory chips the gain almost nothing.

So I thought is it possible to flash my ASUS Extreme EN8800 GT with the Gigabyte GeForce 8800 GT TurboForce BIOS and then using the software to over voltage the card? So what do you think, is that possible?

Well first goo thinking, second you should have looked a bit further for extra information. Just as we explained some time ago as well on our forums this particular Gigabyte card has an extra chip on the card that can steer the voltage and fan speed, which is interacting with the Gigabyte software. And without that extra chip, that Gigabyte designed you can't use these functions. So, you can forget it on any other card and that is also why this Gigabyte version is quite a bit more expensive.

Reading this thread, it seems that being able to select VID 00 to VID 03 would have avoided some confusion. In a related manner, what does the Extra setting do? Does it override the VID for all tasks? I know setting the Extra to the 1.10V label if anything seemed to weaken my overclock but that may just be my imagination!

As you are new one thing you should know, on our forums only an admin is allowed to change the subject of a thread, if we see it again we remove your post. Now since you have some kind of a good argument about the VID's, I would only say that if we would just show the VID's that we would get 10-100 times more emails a day or questions on our forums asking what is VID xx giving as voltage on this card? And plain and simple we don't have the time to do that as this is a hobby for us and not a site making money like almost all hardware review website around, we just make a little money to pay expenses, like our hosting costs and that is it...
Related to the Extra mode, and I would suggest to read a bit more as this question came already up several time, this has all to do with a change that NVIDIA has done since the G9x chips and that meands that these card have an extra mode next to the normal 3D, 2D and Thrtl mode, which we called Extra as we had no other genius invention. Now the Extra mode for the G9x is what the card will run at in 3D applications and games, and setting that one at 1.10V does make a difference in overclocking on chips that are a bit less good, so for about 80% of all GeForce 8800 GT owners.

And yes, but most do read our forums, do a search or know from other forums especially those knowing RivaTuner that the graphics card BIOS's of NVIDIA work with VID's and that the voltage is just a label that makes it easy for them to tweak... And yes, if you have one of the better GeForce 8800 GT cards that already overclocks well it is normal that the extra 0.05V will not make any chance, but for those with lesser good chips it does make a difference as I already mentioned and gives more stability.
