GeForce 8 series and using three displays being feasible? - 2008/02/14 12:18 Hi, a mate of mine wants to run three displays for film cutting
and does not want to spend a lot of money but he still wants to play on the rig in his spare time. I looked around a bit and saw a GeForce 8600 GT 512MB for about €70 which would result in two for €140, for SLI operation.

Are there any other possibilites? Is it possible to get a GeForce 8800 GT and a less powerful card GeForce 8500 GT to use for 3-display mode and they work together on one display, not sure if the GeForce 8500 has SLI if not then a GeForce 8600 instead. Is that possible? Thanks in advance...

Re:GeForce 8 series and using three displays being feasible? - 2008/02/14 14:37 Well this should be possible somehow, but forget for the moment about the SLI to work with different versions of graphics cards. So meaning no SLI is feasible between a GeForce 8800 GT and a GeForce 8600 GTS... Some works is being done by NVIDIA on hybrid SLI, but not in this fashion and you would need an nForce 7x0i series but it is mainly focussed on an integrated solution to SLI with a high-end GeForce 8 series graphics card...

Re:GeForce 8 series and using three displays being feasible? - 2008/02/14 20:56 Hmm okay, so one more question is it possible to put a GeForce 8800 GT in and try the three display thingy with my old Radeon X800 just to see how workflow is with three displays and yes I know that it won't speed up...

Re:GeForce 8 series and using three displays being feasible? - 2008/02/16 10:41 Yes that is something you can try, and that is really something I would do first to see if it works before you go out and buy some graphics cards... And yes I do hope it will work as then your friend can enjoy some nice 3-way display experience.
