In this review, HardwareZoom is going to let use see how fast the Gigabyte Radeon X800 Pro really is. Before the X800, Radeon 9800 was top of the end series in the Radeon lineup, naturally the next generation should be named as Radeon 10800. For convenience sake, someone in ATI decided to replaced "10" by the Roman numeral "X" instead, so we call it Radeon X800 - sounds cooler isn't it?

An Asus v9999 Gamer Edition has been reviewed at PC Stats. Asus utilized the GeForce 6800 regular GPU with 256MB of 2ns DDR3 memory while clocking the core at 350MHz default. Asus is also using the Ultra PCB layout and a HSF that is similar to those that is used on Ultra models. So this card is featuring just like the Ultra versions 2 power connectors...

It seems The Crucible has gotten their hands on the NV Silencer 5 & the ATI Silencer 4. There is nothing quite as satisfying as a cool looking custom PC, except maybe a quiet cool looking custom PC. I for one believe that we shouldn't have to sacrifice performance for noise. Arctic Cooling seems to be on the same page. Ever since the introduction of the VGA Silencer line they have been working hard to keep the cooling performance of their products high with out the need for high speed noisy fans.

TweakTown has taken a look at the PowerColor 9800 Platinum Edition. PowerColor sent TweakTown their Radeon 9800 "Platinum Edition" graphics card last week but they had to admit the naming behind the product got them a little confused. As they had never heard of this strangely named 9800 Platinum Edition before now.

Had you talked to ATI about the notion of application specific optimisations last year they would have likely suggested that these can be fragile, and generic optimisations are not the most stable route to take. However, when the competitive landscape gets a little closer, and even significantly exceeds in some high profile cases, these types of policies inevitably need to be rethought, especially when the competition has an open policy allowing for application specific optimisations. So, now, ATI are (re)introducing the notion of optimising performance where generic optimisations can't meet the needs to the particular application or engines rendering requirements...
ATI's new Catalyst A.I. technology is able to improve 3D application performance by almost 30% under Doom 3 without taking anything away from the overall gaming experience (image quality!).
