ASUS Extreme N8800 GTS TOP Edition Board Review
Written by Mavke
Wednesday, 02 April 2008

For quite a while, NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 GTX was the ultimate video card, and for good reason. It was plenty fast, offered an outstanding 768MB of GDDR3 memory and for quite a while, was the fastest card the company had. Put two together in SLI, and the drool began to flow uncontrollably. Not counting the GeForce 8800 Ultra card, the GeForce 8800 GTX first gained real competition when NVIDIA themselves released a GeForce 8800 GTS follow-up, in the form of the 512MB version. While the older GeForce 8800 GTS cards included either 320MB or 640MB of memory and a 320-bit memory bus, the 512MB version upped the stream processors and cut back to a 256-bit bandwidth. - Techgage

Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 512MB Video Card Review
Written by Mavke
Wednesday, 02 April 2008

The Hong Kong based Sapphire has been in the hardware industry for quite a while, manufacturing primarily video cards and motherboard chipsets. It's the largest supplier of ATI based cards in the world, and was the first to release a card with an HDMI connector. We got our hands on Sapphire's Radeon HD 3650 OverClock edition, a faster, more spacious version of the mid-range card from the red team. And yes, this is a more advanced version which higher clock settings and also more memory to serve the public. We will subject this video card to a battery of tests to see how it measures up to one of the best that the green team has to offer, like the GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card. - ThinkComputers

ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 256MB Graphics Card Review

There are plenty of people without the need of video games. And well, it's a hard argument that anyone needs video games. But then, even if you were kidnapped into gold farming slavery or somesuch, your captors would probably be mindful of your framerate needs. No, there are actually many people who don't want the trappings, and cost of gaming hardware. Integrated graphics aren't always an option and for only a little extra cash, can be un-tethered. Which is exactly what an entry level video card is supposed to do. They're not intended to play video games, and their 3D processing capacity is misleading. Good enough doesn't mean gaming as it's about low power and decent features. - TheTechLounge

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB SLI Edition Review
Written by Mavke
Wednesday, 02 April 2008

With the launch of the nicely priced GeForce 9800 GTX comes the possibility to run it in SLI mode, which is what we will do more specifically. Next to Point of View, the guys from BFG have also submitted a GeForce 9800 GTX and we will pair them to see if we can double up that performance. See, much like any NVIDIA mainstream and higher end card, that GeForce 9800 GTX is SLI compatible, and that means you can upgrade and scale up that 3D rendering gaming rig of yours. In fact you could even pair it up with a third GeForce 9800 GTX and run 3-Way SLI. Though we'll focus on normal SLI though, as dropping $600 on two of these cards is hefty enough as it already is. - Guru3D

EVGA e-GeForce 9800 GTX Version Graphics Review
Written by Mavke
Tuesday, 01 April 2008

Today NVIDIA is announcing the third graphics processing unit in their GeForce 9 series, the GeForce 9800 GTX. The GeForce 9 series debuted in February with the GeForce 9600 GT and did earn several great awards for bringing high-end gaming down to mainstream prices. Just two weeks ago, NVIDIA launched the flagship GeForce 9800 GX2, which features two GPU's working in tandem with NVIDIA SLI technology. The GeForce 9800 GX2 can be used with motherboards using non NVIDIA chipsets such as those from AMD and Intel. After having checked the GeForce 9800 GTX under Windows XP, it performs on par with the previous generation GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card. - nV News

XFX GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB Version Board Review
Written by Mavke
Tuesday, 01 April 2008

If you pulled a random person out of a crowd at your local computer hardware store and asked him or her to name the first fast video card that popped into their head, there is a good chance that their responsive would have the letters GTX in it. The actual last big GTX, the GeForce 8800 GTX, was a radical product that introduced a new unified shader architecture that ushered in a new era of video card performance. But every reign has to end sometime, and now after more than two years, the GeForce 9800 GTX has touched down at our lab. So, probably many are wondering will this new GTX bring the same sort of leap forward? Well XFX is going to help us answer this question. - NeoSeeker

ASUS Extreme N9600 GT TOP Graphics Card Review
Written by Mavke
Monday, 31 March 2008

If one thing is certain, it's that NVIDIA has no intention to let AMD take reign of GPU performance anywhere on the ladder, which was evidenced when they unveiled the GeForce 9600 GT card in late February, an offering that directly competes with AMD's Radeon HD 3870. Of course, it's pricing that can make or break a new launch, and yes NVIDIA managed to hit the target there as well. Although prices at the get go proved to be just under GeForce 8800 GT pricing, now that stock is plentiful, pricing is now far below any GeForce 8800 GT. In fact, even though the GeForce 9600 GT is designed to take on the Radeon HD 3870, its pricing is more in line with the Radeon HD 3850 video card. - Techgage

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB 3-Way SLI Preview
Written by Mavke
Sunday, 30 March 2008

Well here we are again finding ourselves locked in the iBuyPower bunker with more graphics cards than we can poke a stick at. Alongside three GeForce 9800 GTX graphics cards we also have two GeForce 9800 GX2's all ready to go into the funky water cooled system that we've been provided with today. With Tri SLI drivers in hand, more benchmarks than we had last time, we're ready to get stuck into the wonderful world of expensive video setups which is overkill for most of us, but still wanted oh so badly. It has not been so long ago that we looked at the first 3-Way SLI config which was all about the G80 based GeForce 8800 GTX and Ultra, now we moved on to the G92 way of doing triple action. - TweakTown

Albatron GeForce 9600 GT 512MB Video Card Review
Written by Mavke
Saturday, 29 March 2008

It's been a while since we've seen anything from Albatron. That's about to change though, as today we have with us the GeForce 9600 GT version. The thing that's particularly exciting about the Albatron GeForce 9600 GT is that it really follows nothing but the reference design, including the core and memory clock. Why would we be excited about this? The thing is, we've looked at so many GeForce 9600 GT video cards since launch and every single model has carried with it an overclock. We're not complaining, but we haven't actually had a chance to look at the GeForce 9600 GT in its stock form, and it will really be interesting to see how it fairs especially against their many overclocked counterparts. - TweakTown

ASUS GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB Graphics Card Review
Written by Mavke
Friday, 28 March 2008

By now we can safely say that 400 million dollars later, the G80 architecture was good to NVIDIA. First released in November 2006 in the form of the still quite capable GeForce 8800 GTX, this then new graphics architecture set an industry benchmark that was not met by ATI until very recently. The biggest problem NVIDIA had with their GeForce 8800 series initially was its grossly expensive manufacture cost, which ultimately was passed on to the consumer, or at least those that could afford them. Eventually however, less speedy but cheaper cards went into the market and practically dominated the scene throughout 2007. And only very late in the year the Radeon HD 3800 series appeared. - TechSpot

Foxconn GeForce 9600 GT OC Graphics Card Review
Written by Mavke
Friday, 28 March 2008

While the GeForce 9800 series of video cards from NVIDIA might be the talk of the town at the moment, there's no denying that the GeForce 9600 GT is more in line with most people's budgets when it comes to buying a graphics card. The latest GeForce 9600 GT to make its way into the labs comes in the form of a Foxconn which manages to carry quite a hefty overclock on its stock cooler. We've seen a lot of GeForce 9600 GT's come through, and most have managed to show us something that has impressed or at least pleasantly surprised us with their performance. Today we will see if Foxconn can keep up with the tough competition and show us something that gets us a little excited. - TweakTown

ASUS Extreme AH3850 Trinity Edition Board Preview
Written by Mavke
Thursday, 27 March 2008

We all knew that CrossFireX would bring new multi-GPU setups, but we did not expect anyone to actually use more than two cores with a single card. ASUS proved us wrong, as the Extreme AH3850 Trinity is a tri-core card. It has three RV670 cores cooled by a heatpipe construction and a water block, all in a single card. The card is still just a concept and it hasn't been decided when or if it will be released, however we do know that it works. This also means going one step further and actually jumping over the X2 version and straight to an X3 edition, if we can actually call it that way. And this does proof that also with the CrossFireX technology you can build some exotic and innovative products. - FudZilla

ASUS Radeon HD 3870 X2 1GB Graphics Card Review
Written by Mavke
Wednesday, 26 March 2008

Another day, another graphics card. And today it's the Radeon HD 3870 X2 from ASUS in all its dual GPU wielding power. ASUS haven't chosen to go down the route of a stock cooler, so it should be interesting to see what the card is capable of and what exactly they have done to make it stand out from the pack. We like the Radeon HD 3870 X2, and generally speaking it gets good gains at high resolutions in most applications. The single PCB design is leaps and bounds ahead of the original dual-GPU offering from NVIDIA. We've seen pictures of the Radeon HD 3870 X2 from ASUS before, but now it's our chance to get down and dirty with it, and see if it's worth the extra money. - TweakTown

AMD Radeon HD 3850 X2 Might Come Second Quarter
Written by Mavke
Wednesday, 26 March 2008

AMD is considering letting its partners decide upon the fate of the Radeon HD 3850 X2 cards, and as we've already seen ASUS has an experiment with a Radeon HD 3850 X3 card, it's not hard to see that there's an interest from the partners to make such a product. According to the article, AMD is looking for a card to compete in the $299-375 market, as this is the current marketplace for the GeForce 8800 GTS. However, AMD doesn't seem too keen to foot the bill when it comes to development of such a card, and this is why the company is hoping that its partners will come up with their own products. And ofcourse that is something they have actually done in the past already. - FudZilla

Gigabyte GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB Video Card Review
Written by Mavke
Wednesday, 26 March 2008

It seems like it was just yesterday that we bought our first discrete graphics card to outfit an overclocked Cyrix based computer. Back in those Windows 98 days the term GeForce wasn't even in existence yet. This was nearly ten years ago and since that time NVIDIA has developed several successful GeForce product lines, including the newly launched 9th generation. On the 18th of March NVIDIA launched the GeForce 9800 GX2 to coincide with their nForce 790i motherboard chipset. And because gamers were teased by NVIDIA's first GeForce 9 series which barely satisfied the market with their GeForce 9600 GT, the discussion was all about what would become the new king of the hill. - Benchmark Reviews

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB Video Card Review
Written by Mavke
Tuesday, 25 March 2008

If you found yourself underwhelmed by the performance that the GeForce 9800 GX2 provided, NVIDIA's new GeForce 9800 GTX could be the graphics card for you with its lower price point and single GPU. We're not expecting the GTX to be faster than the GX2 by any means but hopefully we see it perform well against it as well as showing some competiveness against AMD's Radeon HD 3870 X2 and the overclocked GeForce 8800 GT giving us similar numbers to the standard G92 based GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB version. Initial pricing on the GeForce 9800 GTX looks promising, down under we should see it pop up for under $450 which puts it into a bracket that doesn't really exist at the moment. - TweakTown

ASUS Extreme N9800 GX2 Quad SLI Graphics Review
Written by Mavke
Tuesday, 25 March 2008

Last week, NVIDIA formally launched the dual-GPU powered GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card and the nForce 790i SLI Ultra chipset. We evaluated both of the products in depth in our coverage of the launch, but had to leave out one important detail per NVIDIA's embargo agreement, being Quad SLI. It wasn't that Quad SLI needed some more time in the oven, however. In fact, we had the drivers in hand to do Quad SLI testing well before last week's launch. The delay in GeForce 9800 GX2 Quad SLI coverage was simply due to a timing issue and commitments NVIDIA had made with a few of their OEM customers, who will likely be announcing Quad SLI powered system sometime today. - HotHardware

VVikoo GeForce 9600 GT 512MB Turbo Board Review
Written by Mavke
Tuesday, 25 March 2008

We have done some pretty embarrassing things in the past, like thinking that we're talking to a male over messenger in Taiwan, to then call and discover that it's actually a female. This is one company however where we wouldn't want to walk up to and try to pronounce the name. We are assuming it's probably said along the lines of Vi-Koo, but we could be so far off the mark. This is the first card we've seen from VVikoo, and what a card it is. Expecting nothing more than a reference design we were pleasantly surprised when we opened the box to discover just how cool this GeForce 9600 GT is. If first impressions are anything to go by we're definitely going to be impressed. - TweakTown

PNY GeForce 9800 GX2 XLR8 Graphics Board Review
Written by Mavke
Monday, 24 March 2008

Last week the new dual-GPU GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card launched. Today we are going to take a look at another GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card, and this time it is one from PNY. Now before we continue we just need to clarify that currently almost all GeForce 9800 GX2 cards are just as the reference design from NVIDIA and don't feature yet any pre-overclocked settings. On that aspect PNY is quite a default adapter and doesn't really make much special versions as such. The PNY GeForce 9800 GX2 shares the same features as with the other GeForce 9800 GX2 video cards, though comes at a nice price tag compared to the competition, meaning slightly more interesting for any buyer. - I4U News

Tuesday Finally Quad SLI For GeForce 9800 GX2 Day!
Written by Mavke
Monday, 24 March 2008

Finally NVIDIA will launch Quad SLI powered by two GeForce 9800 GX2 cards tomorrow. This will be the fastest thing for gaming so far and if you do the math it will cost you more than €1100 for the two graphics cards plus the cost of the motherboard. Unfortunately this only works on NVIDIA motherboards, but there is an indication that it might work on Skulltrail as well. Currently, the nForce 680i and nForce 780i are the only two boards to support these cards, at least on the Intel side, but you will need two GeForce 9800 GX2 to play at the ultra high widescreen resolution with a lot of effects on. We learned that DirectX 10 should also scale well on four GPU's, but we will see that tomorrow. - FudZilla

XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB Graphics Edition Review
Written by Mavke
Sunday, 23 March 2008

A few days ago we talked about XFX's GeForce 9800 GX2 and now it is time to get back to it, and this time around pitted against the GeForce 8800 Ultra. The GeForce 9800 GX2 is a stunning card and it assures NVIDIA bragging rights for months to come. It outperforms the Ultra all the way to the retirement home, making way for NVIDIA's ninth generation. The XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 is a reference designed card with reference clocks. Its GPU's run at 600MHz, the shaders are clocked at 1500MHz and the gigabyte of memory runs at 2000MHz effective. Like all other partners XFX is currently offering only the reference card, but we're expecting too see overclocked cards on the market soon. - FudZilla

NVIDIA Plans GeForce 9800 GT Graphics Card Edition
Written by Mavke
Friday, 21 March 2008

We learned that NVIDIA plans a new card that will be branded as GeForce 9800 GT. For all we know this could simply be a renamed GeForce 8800 GT. We strongly believe that NVIDIA will quickly phase out all the GeForce 8800 GT cards and simply rename it with a new old card. The new thing that comes with GeForce 9 series is the ability to shut down under hybrid power marchitecture, and this might be the biggest difference between GeForce 8800 GT and the upcoming GeForce 9800 GT. We would suspect a bit higher clock, over 600MHz, but we are quite sure that as soon as partners sell them out NVIDIA will quietly replace the GeForce 8800 GTS with the GeForce 9800 GTX version, and the GeForce 8800 GT with the GeForce 9800 GT graphics accelerator. - FudZilla

Zotac GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB Graphics Board Review
Written by Mavke
Thursday, 20 March 2008

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who has the fastest desktop graphics card of them all? Right now, that's a toss-up between the Radeon HD 3870 X2 or the GeForce 8800 Ultra. And NVIDIA is clearly not happy that AMD is back at the top of the performance tree. The green team had a seemingly unassailable performance lead since the inception of the G80 based GeForce 8800 GTX. So ATI had to leverage two Radeon HD 3870 GPU's on one single PCB to ensure that it was punching in the heavyweight division. Adopting a tactic that will become pervasive for the high-end sector, NVIDIA is now doing the same with the GeForce 9800 GX2, to regain the title of undisputed graphics card champ of the world. - Hexus

EVGA e-GeForce 9600 GT SSC 512MB Edition Review
Written by Mavke
Thursday, 20 March 2008

Recently NVIDIA launched their first card in the GeForce 9 series. It is based on the new G94 core which uses the same architecture as the G92, it actually is a G92 with less shaders inside the die. The actual number of shaders is 64, versus 128 on the G92 chipset. This helps bring down the transistor count and die size, resulting in a manufacturing cost reduction. The EVGA e-GeForce 9600 GT SSC board comes at greatly increased clocks over the NVIDIA reference design. Even though the cooler is the same, EVGA has beefed it up with some graphics and also adjusted the fan controller speeds it seems. But if that will make a huge difference is hard to tell at this point, but we will see shortly. - techPowerUp!
